TNL Radio, the first private radio station in Sri Lanka, commenced transmissions on the 2nd of April 1993, and held it’s launch on the 23rd July of the same year. TNL Radio has since earned the distinction of being one of the first radio stations in Asia to broadcast live online in 1996, the first private radio station in Sri Lanka to win the UNDA awards, also in 1996, and the first in Asia to secure the NAB Broadcast Excellence Award in 1997. In 1999, TNL Radio introduced TNL Onstage, a talent contest that is now Sri Lanka’s biggest platform for local musicians and original talent.
TNL Radio is an English Language station and plays a combination of US and UK chart hits. The station’s format is both Pop and Alternative. TNL Radio airs several well-known globally syndicated shows, such as American Top Forty with Ryan Seacrest, the Expat Chart Show, and the Nikki Sixx Countdown.
On the 1st November 2012, owing to a reshuffling of radio frequencies by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, TNL Radio, formerly on 101.7 FM, commenced broadcast on its new frequencies, 99.2 and 101.8.
